The Royal Wedding – Kate & Will

On the day of the Royal Wedding, 29th July 2011, I was undecided whether to go to London or watch on the TV. In the end the power of ‘being there’ overwhelmed me and I drove into London. On arrival I walked towards the wedding route only to find that the police, quite rightly, had closed all entrances. I started, like many others, to look for somewhere else to go.
I ended up in Pall Mall, which runs parallel to The Mall. At St James’s Palace, Marlborough Road, the crowd were trying to catch a glimpse of the Royal Couple, Prince William and Kate Middleton as they passed down The Mall. With the freedom to roam I was able to search for interesting people. The photographs included in this portfolio were taken as people passed me, the atmosphere was good spirited and I wasn’t challenged in any way, in most cases the photograph was followed by a smile.
The final photograph was taken of the giant screen from the rear of the crowd in Trafalgar Square in front of the National Portrait Gallery, it was of the Royal couples’ kiss on the balcony at Buckingham Palace.
